Harry Kane is set to extend his contract with FC Bayern. At the same time, the striker is already thinking about an unconventional career path after his time in Munich.
Even at 33, Harry Kane is still far from the end of his career. At FC Bayern, everything currently points to the England national team captain extending his contract, which runs through 2027, once again. On Wednesday, Kane himself stated that signing the contract “won’t take too much longer.”
Nevertheless, the striker is already thinking about the more distant future—and has a rather extraordinary plan in mind. Kane can imagine eventually playing simultaneously as a soccer player in the American MLS and as a football player in the NFL.
“That’s something I’m going to look into a bit more seriously,” the Bayern star explained, according to The Athletic. However, no concrete decision has been made yet: “It all depends on how my career develops over the next five or six years, on my motivation, and on what I want to do.”
This means Kane could remain active as a professional athlete well beyond his time at FC Bayern. Given the different season schedules of the MLS and the NFL, such a dual role would, at least in principle, be conceivable.
Kane would prepare intensively for an NFL adventure
So far, Kane says he hasn’t had any talks with an NFL team. As long as he’s playing soccer at the highest level, this isn’t an immediate concern for him anyway.
“If people know that I’m still in top form here in soccer, this topic doesn’t even come up,” explained the 33-year-old. Still, he hasn’t completely let go of the idea: “But I do keep it in the back of my mind, because right now I feel like I want to play here for as long as I can.”
Should Kane actually take the plunge, he doesn’t want to approach the NFL adventure as a PR stunt: “If I were to do that, I’d take it seriously,” he clarified. “I’d take six months to a year beforehand to train.”
The role of kicker would, at the very least, suit one of Kane’s greatest strengths. In the NFL, kickers are responsible for field goals and extra points after touchdowns, among other things. The Bayern star definitely sees parallels to his current role as a penalty kick taker: „I take penalty kicks, and the pressure and technique are very similar.“

Kane also knows, however, that switching between two professional sports would be anything but a given: “But as I know, it’s the same with all top-level sports: When you see them on TV, people make it look easy, and you think it’s possible, but that’s not always the case.”
In addition to American football, Kane is also passionate about golf. However, he believes a move to the professional ranks in that sport would be significantly more difficult. That’s why “the NFL is much more realistic than golf, let’s put it that way.”
For now, Kane’s focus is on soccer anyway. Since his move from Tottenham to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023, the forward has scored an impressive 152 goals in 154 competitive matches. Before a possible career in the U.S. even comes up for discussion, a contract extension in Munich is likely to be on the agenda first.
