Contract negotiations between Harry Kane and FC Bayern appear to be nearing a conclusion. For weeks, both sides have been negotiating an extension of the contract, which expires in 2027. Now the 33-year-old has spoken out himself about the current status—and made it very clear that an agreement is getting closer.
This should also put a significant damper on the numerous speculations surrounding the striker’s possible departure for the time being. Most recently, Kane has been linked to FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Al Hilal, among others.
However, the Englishman had repeatedly emphasized that he feels at home in Munich. His latest statements now underscore that his future with the German record champions is becoming increasingly concrete.
Kane: “It won’t be too much longer.”
In an interview with the British newspaper The Independent, Kane confirmed that only a few details remain to be worked out in the negotiations.
“We’re still in good talks—I want to be honest about that. We’re close. There are still some things we need to work out in detail. I’m happy there. I don’t think it will be too much longer before there’s an announcement.”
With this statement, Kane has taken a significant step forward in his contract negotiations compared to recent comments. While the Bayern star isn’t yet speaking of a final agreement, his remark about an imminent announcement suggests that the talks are now well advanced.
There have also been positive signals from Bayern recently. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen stated at Oktoberfest that the club and the player are “in good talks.” From Munich’s perspective, the contract negotiations should “come to a close as slowly as possible” after the international break.
The length of the contract remains the key issue
It remains unclear what contract term both sides may have agreed upon. This very point was recently considered one of the central issues in the negotiations.
Bayern is reportedly in favor of an extension through 2029. Kane himself, however, is said to prefer a contract running through 2030, with an eye toward the next World Cup. It is not yet known whether one side has prevailed or if a compromise has been reached.
It was also recently reported that a new buyout clause could be included in the contract. According to BILD chief reporter Christian Falk, the Munich club would, in principle, be open to such a provision.
However, Kane’s own statements now leave little doubt as to the direction the talks are taking. The striker feels at home in Munich, Bayern wants to keep its most important forward—and apparently, only the final details remain to be worked out.
An official signing has not yet taken place. Kane himself, however, makes it clear: It shouldn’t be long before his future with FC Bayern is officially announced.
