Bad news for FC Bayern and especially for young prospect Maycon Cardozo. The 17-year-old apparently suffered a serious injury during Munich’s Regionalliga match.
The German record champions’ reserve team celebrated its first win of the season on Saturday at FC Illertissen. Coach Dante’s team secured a 2-0 victory on the road. However, the win was overshadowed by Cardozo’s injury in the closing minutes.
The attacking player had to be substituted. A Bayern fan who watched the game in person later described the alarming scenes on X: “Unfortunately, Cardozo got injured. It happened right in front of my eyes, and it seems pretty serious because he was crying and an ambulance was called…”

Bayern is waiting for the exact diagnosis
There is no official diagnosis yet. FC Bayern has not yet commented on the nature or severity of the injury. Accordingly, it remains to be seen what further medical examinations will reveal.
However, the fact that an ambulance was called and that, according to an eyewitness, Cardozo was visibly distraught is cause for great concern. It is not yet possible to draw conclusions about the actual severity of the injury based on this information.
Amateur coach Dante is likely not the only one eagerly awaiting the results of the examinations. A prolonged absence by the 17-year-old could also have significant implications for Vincent Kompany and the professional team.
Cardozo was one of the standout performers during FC Bayern’s summer preseason. The Brazilian regularly got the chance to showcase his skills with the first team and even traveled with them on the Asian tour. With his speed, directness, and drive toward the goal, the attacking player made a lasting impression.
Cardozo was slated to serve as Díaz’s backup

His strong performances recently even influenced the Munich club’s plans for the rest of the season. A loan move that had been under discussion was taken off the table. Instead, Cardozo was to continue gaining playing time in Munich while also serving as an option for Kompany’s first-team roster.
Particularly on the left side of the attack, the youngster, along with Arijon Ibrahimovic, was considered a potential backup for Luis Díaz. Cardozo’s versatility works in his favor: The 17-year-old can play on both wings as well as in a more central attacking role.
A prolonged absence would therefore be a bitter blow in more ways than one. Not only would Cardozo be missed by Bayern’s amateur team, but for the time being, he would also no longer have the opportunity to earn further appearances with the pros through strong performances.
The extent of the youngster’s injury remains unclear for now. Further examinations will be decisive. Only then will FC Bayern likely have a clear picture of how long Cardozo might be sidelined.
