Lennart Karl made his comeback in FC Bayern’s Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart. After recovering from an injury, the youngster came on in the second half, taking an important step back toward competitive play. However, the 18-year-old is not yet completely satisfied with his physical condition.
In the 5-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart, it wasn’t just the score that made for positive news. After a lengthy injury layoff, Lennart Karl made his comeback shortly before the end of the match.
After the game, Karl spoke candidly about his road to recovery: “It’s been a difficult journey. I’m not quite at 100 percent yet, but I’m already almost at 90 percent,” the forward told the AZ.
For Karl, the appearance against Stuttgart was nevertheless a special moment. After suffering an injury shortly before the World Cup, the Bayern talent missed the tournament and instead worked on his comeback at Säbener Straße.
Now, for the first time, he was able to get some playing time under competitive conditions. The fact that he hasn’t yet reached his full potential is no cause for concern for Karl. Rather, the comeback is meant to be the next step on the road to full fitness.
Back step by step
Still, Karl doesn’t want to rush things on his return. After his injury-related break, the priority is to regain his rhythm and confidence.
At the same time, his own assessment shows that the 18-year-old has already made significant progress. Operating at about 90 percent capacity, Karl isn’t far from being fully fit.
For Vincent Kompany, Karl’s comeback is therefore likely to be welcome news. As he gains more playing time, Karl can continue to increase his workload and once again prove himself ready for bigger challenges.
So another big step has now been taken: Karl is back and wants to make up the last few percentage points as quickly as possible.
