All signs clearly point to continued collaboration between Max Eberl and FC Bayern. Now, the sporting director has spoken out for the first time about reports of an impending contract extension—and confirmed talks with the Munich club.
For several days now, everything has pointed to Max Eberl staying with the German record champions for the long term. The 52-year-old’s current contract runs through 2027, but could be extended early.
During the Telekom Cup, Eberl spoke for the first time about his future on MagentaTV. He confirmed that club officials have already discussed the matter with him.
“We’ve also talked about what my future might hold, but I think that will be clarified by the end of August, and then we’ll see how things go from there,” explained the Bayern boss.
Supervisory Board Must Approve Eberl’s Contract Extension
In doing so, Eberl confirmed—at least indirectly—the latest media reports. According to these reports, the Executive Committee has already given the green light for an extension. The sporting director himself is also said to have been informed during the trip to Asia that the club, in principle, plans to continue with him.
The key date is now August 25. That’s when FC Bayern’s supervisory board will meet and must approve the planned extension.
Only then are concrete contract negotiations between the two sides set to begin. According to information from Sky, the Munich club plans to extend Eberl’s contract by two more years, through 2029.
Bayern is banking on continuity with Eberl
Eberl has served as sporting director at FC Bayern since March 2024. After his early departure from RB Leipzig, he originally signed a contract in Munich that ran through 2027.
At one point, his work came under criticism. However, the sentiment surrounding the 52-year-old has since changed significantly. In particular, the early squad planning this summer and the team’s on-field development under Vincent Kompany are reportedly viewed positively internally.
The contract extension has not yet been officially approved. However, Eberl’s statements make it clear that both sides are already actively discussing a shared future. By the end of August, the path could finally be clear for a new contract running through 2029.
