What once began as a quirky fan chant centered on Leon Goretzka has long since evolved into a viral internet phenomenon. By now, the famous “Goretzkaaaaa!” chant doesn’t even stop at other top stars. Now it’s caught up with PSG captain Marquinhos—and the Brazilian clearly didn’t quite know what was happening to him.
Leon Goretzka no longer plays for FC Bayern. Online, however, the former Munich midfielder remains omnipresent. This is thanks to a running gag that has spread in recent months, particularly on TikTok, Instagram, and X.
Time and again, Goretzka’s name is drawn out and shouted as loudly as possible: “Goretzkaaaaa!”
What began as a fan’s playful prank quickly turned into a full-blown social media trend. Goretzka was confronted with the chant during interviews, training sessions, team arrivals, and away trips. Even at international tournaments in the U.S., the German national team player wasn’t spared.
The 31-year-old usually took the hype in stride. Sometimes he reacted with a smile, other times with a roll of the eyes. By now, however, the running gag has apparently taken on a life of its own.

With Leon Goretzka out of a job, his number-one fan decided to switch targets and is now following the Paris Saint-Germain players—but keeping his iconic chant.

After all, these days Goretzka doesn’t even have to be there for his name to be chanted all over the place.
PSG star Marquinhos, of all people, just experienced this firsthand. During the UEFA Super Cup, the Brazilian was greeted with the now-famous chant upon Paris Saint-Germain’s arrival in Salzburg.
A clip on social media shows people repeatedly shouting “Goretzkaaaaa!” at the top of their lungs as Marquinhos walks by.
The PSG captain’s reaction makes the scene particularly curious. The Brazilian looks visibly confused in the direction of the fans and seems completely baffled as to why the name of the former Bayern player, of all people, is being chanted.
This marks a new milestone for the internet trend. What was originally directly associated with Goretzka now apparently works completely independently of the midfielder.
