With the signings of Ismael Saibari, Nathaniel Brown, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, FC Bayern has selectively bolstered its roster this summer. Recently, however, there has been speculation about further potential signings. Now, club officials have apparently made a clear decision: No more signings are expected—even if additional players leave the club.
With just under three weeks left in the transfer window, the German record champions’ roster planning appears to be finally complete.
As reported by Sport BILD, there is agreement between the executive board and the supervisory board that no further players will be signed this summer.
Even further departures will not change Bayern’s plan.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that even potential sales are not expected to change this decision. Even if Munich removes more players from its payroll, the money freed up by these moves will apparently not be immediately invested in new players.
This point is particularly interesting in light of the current situation. With Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza, there are still several players on the roster who are expected to leave FC Bayern if possible.
There are concrete suitors for Palhinha in particular. Aston Villa is actively pursuing the Portuguese midfielder. Club officials are also continuing to work on solutions for Boey and Zaragoza.
If all three players were to leave, the squad—which has already been kept deliberately compact—would shrink even further. As things stand, however, Bayern does not intend to sign a replacement.
In doing so, the club’s management is apparently making a conscious decision to rely on the existing squad and the numerous young players who impressed during summer training.
Young players like Maycon Cardozo and Bastian Assomo made a good impression during the Asian tour. Added to this is Ndiaye, who has now been signed permanently following his previous loan and is already fully integrated into the team.
Kompany will have to make do with the current roster
Vincent Kompany, too, had recently expressed caution regarding further transfers. The Bayern coach pointed out that responsibility for signings and departures lies with sporting director Max Eberl and director of sports Christoph Freund.
At the same time, Kompany emphasized that his squad would continue to develop simply through the return of several players who had recently been absent. That seems to be exactly what the club’s leadership is counting on now.
With Saibari and Brown, Munich has already invested around 100 million euros in two high-profile signings. While Brown is expected to add versatility to the defense, Saibari offers Kompany multiple options in midfield and on offense.
The fact that even further sales are not expected to trigger a new transfer is nonetheless a bold decision. After all, following last season’s double, Bayern wants to take the next step in the Champions League as well.
Should multiple injuries occur during the season, squad depth could quickly become an issue. However, Bayern’s leadership seems to be consciously taking this risk and instead wants to rely more heavily on its young players.
This is likely to shift Eberl and Freund’s focus for the remaining weeks of the transfer window once and for all: Instead of looking for further reinforcements, the main priority now is to find suitable buyers for Palhinha, Boey, and Zaragoza.
