At Sportpark Unterhaching, the future home stadium of the Bayern women’s team, the squad hosted French first-division club Paris FC for a friendly match this Sunday. It was a real test of their mettle.
After all, the new season kicks off in just six days with the first official match, the Super Cup against VfL Wolfsburg. A week later, the new Bundesliga season begins against Union Berlin.
So it’s no wonder that Coach Jose Barcala’s team was highly motivated and eager to show their best side. Especially since, with so much competition for spots, many players wanted to make a strong impression to perhaps gain an advantage in the upcoming matches.
FC Bayern Celebrates Friendly Win Against Paris FC
The match was played in front of 6,000 fans; shortly before kickoff, it was announced that Momoko Takinawa and Sophie Proost would be unavailable for FC Bayern due to illness. The starting lineup was nonetheless packed with star players, including Klara Bühl, Linda Dallmann, and Pernille Harder.
The Bayern women were highly motivated from the start in this final preseason friendly, pressing high and early and looking to bring a lot of energy to the game. Their strategy paid off, as Harder scored the opening goal just twelve minutes in to make it 1–0. That gave them confidence, and the ball moved quite well from there on.
Alara sealed the deal with the 2–0 goal before halftime. Not everything was perfect yet, and the coordination wasn’t quite there in every attack, but what the Bayern women brought to the field looked very promising. Goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic had to stay alert at times, but didn’t have to make many saves.
In the second half, there were more and more substitutions, which then affected the rhythm of the game. Dangerous moments now arose much more frequently from set pieces than directly from open play. What was confirmed, however, was the good balance in Bayern’s play; even with frequent substitutions, they didn’t allow much. And so, after the final preseason friendly, there’s every reason to be highly satisfied.
