Is FC Bayern’s summer transfer window for new signings really already over? Club officials had recently emphasized on several occasions that no further signings were planned. However, after the conclusion of the Asian tour, Vincent Kompany did not want to categorically rule out further new signings.
With Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, FC Bayern had already secured its two most important transfers early on. The Munich club invested around 100 million euros in the duo. Recently, the focus has therefore been primarily on trimming the roster and generating additional revenue.
After the 2-1 friendly win against Aston Villa, Kompany was nevertheless asked whether there might still be some movement on the signings front. The Belgian initially referred the question to the sporting management.
“When I hold my press conferences, I usually have Max or Christoph sitting next to me. I’m not trying to dodge this question, but ultimately, it’s their responsibility to keep an eye on the market for departures and new signings,” explained the Bayern coach.
Kompany Praises Eberl and Freund
At the same time, Kompany expressed great satisfaction with the work done so far by Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. The transfers the club was determined to make were completed “really, really early,” he said.
However, the 40-year-old avoided making a definitive statement that no further players would be joining the team.
“There are still a few players who are coming back, and we’re looking forward to their return. Our roster will continue to develop from this point on, if only because we’re getting players back,” Kompany emphasized.
By this, the Belgian is referring, among other things, to the numerous World Cup participants who were still absent during the Asian tour. In addition, several injured stars—such as Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Ismael Saibari—are working on their return.
Departures could still shake things up
Whether a new player will actually be signed beyond that will likely also depend on developments regarding player sales.
Several players—including Sacha Boey, João Palhinha, and Bryan Zaragoza—remain on the transfer list. Things could move quickly, especially with Palhinha. Aston Villa has since confirmed that talks regarding the Portuguese midfielder are underway.
Bayern also appears to be keeping an eye on the transfer market. Most recently, the Munich club has been linked to PSG prospect Ibrahim Mbaye, among others.
Kompany’s statements at least indicate that Bayern is not currently scrambling to find reinforcements. However, should an interesting opportunity arise in the coming weeks—or should several departures create additional financial and roster flexibility—another transfer is apparently not entirely out of the question.
