The Bayern women’s team has secured a highly sought-after talent from the Netherlands. Sophie Proost is transferring from FC Twente Enschede to Munich and has signed a contract through 2029. Even the top English club Chelsea is said to have tried to sign the 19-year-old.
FC Bayern has come out on top in the race to sign one of the Netherlands’ most promising young attacking talents. As FC Bayern officially announced, Sophie Proost is joining from FC Twente Enschede and has committed to the German record champions on a long-term contract. The U-19 national team player was highly sought after across Europe—and ultimately chose Munich.
Proost was anything but an unknown quantity on the transfer market. Half of Europe is said to have vied for the talented player, with England’s top club Chelsea among those making a move. Bayern Munich ultimately prevailed, bringing the attacking player to Säbener Straße.
Proost already brings experience on the international stage: She made her first Champions League appearances for FC Twente. In Munich, the 19-year-old is set to take the next step in her development. The Bayern women’s team will begin preseason training next week.
Rech is convinced of Proost’s potential
Director of Soccer Bianca Rech explained why the club moved so early: “She is a very interesting young player who poses a tremendous goal-scoring threat on the wings. We are absolutely convinced of her potential and confident that she will take the next step in her development with us in the coming years. Sophie brings great qualities to the offense, is versatile, and fits perfectly with our style of play,” said Rech.
Proost herself left no doubt about her decision: “When I first heard about FC Bayern’s interest, it was an incredible moment. It all felt right from the start—so I knew immediately that I wanted to make the move here. As a player, I see myself as very technical, explosive, and fast: I always want to play forward, score goals, and at the same time work hard for the team, support my teammates, and continue to develop every day. Here, I’ll be playing alongside top international players from whom I can learn an incredible amount. Together with the team, I want to continue developing and win as many titles as possible in the coming years,” said the 19-year-old.
With this signing, FC Bayern is underscoring its strategy of purposefully building the women’s team with young talent. For Proost, who most recently spent her summer vacation in Spain, the next chapter of her career begins on the banks of the Isar.
