The 2026 World Cup in North America is just around the corner and FC Bayern have released a number of players, including a number for the DFB. Joshua Kimmich, among others, wants to make a good impression at this tournament. However, he has now put the brakes on expectations regarding the title for the time being
After all, things have not always looked good for the DFB squad in recent weeks and months. The qualifying campaign was also bumpy, at least in parts. For Kimmich, it is important to get the basics right, as he now announced at a press conference at the DFB squad’s quarters in Herzogenaurach
This is where the German team will start their preparations for the tournament, with the first test against Finland taking place in Mainz on Sunday
Kimmich talks about World Cup expectations
After a good season at FC Bayern with all three national titles, Kimmich has arrived with a lot of self-confidence. During the press conference, he first reviewed the last tournament
„If you look at the European Championship, for example, it was a step in the right direction for us. It was perceived as a success. If you look at it in sporting terms, we didn’t just play very, very good games. The opening game was good, as was the one against Spain, but there were ups and downs in between,“ said Kimmich

And: „Nevertheless, everything was perceived positively. You can’t always influence tournament success 100%. We can determine the manner. And if this is right, then the probability of being successful is also high. We shouldn’t talk about the title now, that won’t get us anywhere.“
For Kimmich, it is hugely important that the German team manage to regularly achieve their maximum in the game. „We have to think about the way we want to play. We’ve shown some progress recently, especially in the Slovakia game. That was a benchmark that we have to bring to every game,“ said the international.
