FC Bayern is in the race for a top international talent – and believes he could have a great career
FC Bayern have apparently set their sights on a new attacking jewel. According to the German newspaper tz, the Munich club are looking closely at Colombian youngster Samuel Martinez. The 17-year-old is currently causing a stir internationally – and is even being compared internally to Brazil legend Kaká
The youngster recently caught the eye at the U17 South American Championship in Paraguay. Martinez was one of the most eye-catching players in the final against Argentina, which Colombia won 4:0. He set up the opening goal after a strong solo run from his own half – a moment that underlines his exceptional abilities
The talent is no longer an insider tip. According to the report, other top clubs got involved in the poker game during the tournament. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal FC are also said to have expressed an interest
While clubs such as Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are said to be hesitant at the moment, Munich are sensing their chance – and are apparently actively pushing ahead with their efforts
Internally, Martinez is highly regarded for his style of play. His elegance, dynamism and goalscoring ability are reminiscent of Kaka, according to those in charge. At the same time, it is clear that the 1.84-metre attacking player still has physical development potential
Bayern already in contact with the player’s side
Bayern have positioned themselves early on, with scout Christoph Kresse already in contact with the player’s entourage. Sports director Christoph Freund is also said to know and observe the talent closely
However, a quick transfer is not possible. Martinez was born on 5 April 2009 and is only allowed to move to Europe at the age of 18 due to FIFA regulations. Nevertheless, interested clubs are already working on possible scenarios in the background
The player himself is currently keeping a low profile: „To be honest, at the moment I’m fully focused on winning the title and celebrating with my family and the team,“ explained Martinez after the tournament

One advantage for FC Bayern could be their strong reputation in Colombia. With Luis Diaz, Munich have recently landed a direct hit. The attacking player has impressed with strong performances since his transfer and is one of the most important players in Vincent Kompany’s team
There are also historical links: Adolfo Valencia and James Rodriguez are two prominent Colombian players who have already signed for FC Bayern.
