„We’ve been chasing after Bayern a lot, and the important thing now is to keep up with them and march ahead, because then maybe something will develop and Borussia Dortmund are there to win something,“ explained Schlotterbeck after his first competitive match since the beginning of April. A clear challenge to FC Bayern, who have once again made an impressive start to the season
After four matchdays, Dortmund are in second place with ten points, just two points behind the league leaders from Munich. While BVB have scored solidly so far, Bayern have won all of their first four games and achieved an impressive goal difference of 18:3
BVB as Bayern’s number one hunter – competition weakens
The biggest difference between the two clubs: While Dortmund have scored nine goals, FC Bayern have already scored twice as many, as a glance at the Bundesliga table calculator shows. Goal scorer Harry Kane shines with eight goals and leads the Bundesliga goalscorer list by a large margin
However, Borussia Dortmund are currently the only serious contenders, at least in terms of points. RB Leipzig follow in third place with nine points, but do not look stable enough after the 6-0 debacle in the season opener in Munich. Eintracht Frankfurt, seen by many as the secret favourites before the season, lost ground early on with two defeats and are currently only in sixth place
Bayer Leverkusen have been particularly disappointing so far, with the runners-up of the last two years failing to get into their stride and surprisingly sitting in mid-table after picking up just five points from four games.
