FC Bayern sent out a clear signal in the top match against VfL Wolfsburg, winning 4:1. After falling behind, the Munich side turned the game around impressively and extended their lead at the top. This may have been a decisive step in the title race.
The starting position was clear: the league leaders had an eleven-point lead before kick-off, albeit with one more game to play. Wolfsburg wanted to make the race exciting once again and got off to the better start in Munich.
The visitors took the lead through Kessya Bussy after 16 minutes. Bayern initially struggled, but had good opportunities before the break. Jovana Damnjanović failed to score in front of Anneke Johannes and Linda Dallmann was blocked just before the line. Wolfsburg defended passionately and took the 1:0 lead into the break.
Double strike after the break turns the tide
Shortly after the restart, the game turned within a few minutes. Damnjanović first benefited from a momentous mistake by Wolfsburg keeper Anneke Johannes. The Serbian blocked a clearance and slotted home to make it 1:1 (54′). Just two minutes later, she scored again to make it 2:1 (56′) after a low cross from Franziska Kett.
Georgia Stanway increased the lead to 3:1 with a precise low shot after a pinpoint pass from Momoko Tanikawa (70′). Wolfsburg lost order at this stage, while Bayern continued to play consistently forward. Klara Bühl finally decided the game: After Johannes was unable to hold on to a Stanway shot, the international scored to make it 4:1 (80′).
Bayern pull away from Wolfsburg for good
In the final phase, José Barcala’s team managed the result with aplomb, with changes bringing additional stability, but Wolfsburg lacked the power to catch up again.
The win puts Munich on 52 points and 69:6 goals after 18 games and increases their lead over Wolfsburg to 14 points with one game remaining. Given this constellation, the title race is effectively decided in February 2026.
Bayern continue their campaign on 11 March in the DFB Cup quarter-finals at Hamburger SV. Four days later, they face an away game at 1. FC Köln in the league. Wolfsburg first host Eintracht Frankfurt in the cup and then face Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
