As an intense year at FC Bayern draws to a close, Vincent Kompany has written a personal letter to the fans to mark Christmas and take stock
Kompany not only spoke about the club’s special anniversary year, but also about the development of his team and his personal impressions since taking office. The Christmas letter was published on the official club website
In his Christmas greeting to supporters, the Belgian struck a very personal tone. The occasion was the 125th anniversary of the club, which FC Bayern celebrated in 2025. Looking back on this special year, Kompany explained that they could be „proud and grateful to be part of this club, its unique history and the big FC Bayern family“
The 39-year-old described working with his team as a daily drive: „Working with this team is a pure joy – I feel this hunger for more every day, and even after defeats, our dressing room is stable.“
In addition to looking back at 2025, Kompany also ventured a brief look ahead to what is to come: „In 2026, our returnees Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito will also give us energy.“ At the same time, the coach announced that he wants to remain true to the attacking style: „The players in our team didn’t start playing soccer because they want to run after things – they want to be active, and that’s how we’ll approach and perform in 2026 too.“
Eberl: „I admire the boys…“
Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl had previously given a positive review of the year on DAZN. When asked about the stresses and strains of the fixture list, he explained: „I admire the boys when we come home from a Champions League game on a Thursday, for example, and you know that the next Bundesliga game awaits on Saturday.“ According to Eberl, the team spirit that was built up during the Club World Cup was particularly impressive: „This Club World Cup was a gift for us, even if it ended dramatically with this elimination and Jamal’s injury.“
Eberl also had words of praise for the coach. He was asked whether he would like to speak to Kompany himself on the phone at Christmas. His answer: „I would love to, because it’s a lot of fun and we like each other a lot, but we will have problems with our better halves.“
In his Christmas message, Kompany also emphasized how much he and his family now feel at home in Munich. He also revealed a little detail with a twinkle in his eye: „This Christmas is the first time I’m having something on the table at home that I got to know here: Kaiserschmarrn.“
