Dayot Upamecano and FC Bayern have been talking about a joint future for some time now, but the talks are not making any progress. One demand is causing a stir behind the scenes.
Negotiations with the central defender have been ongoing for weeks. According to the German newspaper tz, Upamecano’s management has presented the record champions with an extensive demand, according to which Upamecano is to receive an annual salary of 16 million euros in future, with up to two million euros in bonus payments on top.
In addition, there is another detail that has been the subject of discussion for some time: a desired exit clause. The planned transfer fee of 65 million euros for this clause, which is to take effect from the second year of the contract, is causing particularly heated debate. According to tz, the player’s camp is keen to include this clause in the new contract.
However, in exceptional cases – such as with Jamal Musiala or Harry Kane – FC Bayern has already deviated from this line in the past. The Upamecano camp argues that such a mechanism could create planning security for both sides.
Top clubs are waiting for Upamecano’s decision
A lavish hand money is also up for discussion. According to Bild, Upamecano is demanding a payment in the double-digit million range – reportedly around 20 million euros. If no agreement is reached by the end of the year, the Frenchman could officially start negotiating with other clubs from January. In addition to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool FC are said to have already been informed of the possible overall package. From the club’s point of view, a transfer-free departure in the summer of 2026 would be a scenario that they would want to avoid at all costs.
Despite the many unresolved issues, the hope of an agreement remains high. As tz further reports, Upamecano continues to feel at home in Munich. The Frenchman is currently one of the regulars in central defence under Vincent Kompany and has recently proven his sporting value on several occasions. Head of Sport Max Eberl said on Sunday, when asked about the defender’s future: „Basically, I’m very confident.“
