What are FC Bayern’s future plans for Josip Stanisic? The plan for the Croatian international has apparently been finalised.

After recovering from injury, Josip Stanisic is on the verge of a possible starter’s role at FC Bayern again – perhaps as early as the Champions League clash against Paris. But while FCB’s home-grown talent is back in action, long-term squad planning is already underway in the background: according to Sky, the record champions have a clear idea of how they plan to use the defender in the future.

According to the report, Bayern no longer see Stanisic as a full-back in the long term. In future, the 25-year-old will be deployed in central defence.

Coach Vincent Kompany has repeatedly praised Stanisic for his versatility, but there is a clear internal trend: the Croatian international should focus on the central defence position in the medium term.

Even if Dayot Upamecano leaves the club, FC Bayern will probably not rely solely on Stanisic in central defence. Instead, Munich are planning to sign another top defender next summer. At the top of the list are Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace) and Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund).

Both players are being touted as potential additions to provide long-term stability and depth in defence. Stanisic should remain part of this competition – as a flexible defender who can also help at right-back if necessary.

At the same time, there could also be some changes on the right side of defence. According to Sky, Sacha Boey is a candidate for sale in the summer. Should he leave the club, a position would become vacant at right-back.

A possible successor is already on the list: Givairo Read from Feyenoord Rotterdam. The 19-year-old Dutchman is regarded as one of Europe’s greatest talents in this position. According to Sky, Bayern are also specifically interested in him.
