The discussion surrounding Bayern’s defensive midfield remains a hot topic. Manu Koné, currently under contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach, could once again become an issue in Munich, as he did last summer. Max Eberl, who once brought him to Gladbach, is considered to be in favour of the Frenchman. However, the decision to sign him depends on various factors.

According to Sport Bild, Koné was already on FC Bayern’s radar in the past, but the scouts had concerns about his consistency and susceptibility to errors. Max Eberl, on the other hand, who personally brought Koné to Gladbach, is convinced of the Frenchman’s abilities, although he is aware of his injury history. The decision as to whether Koné will actually move to Munich is therefore likely to depend largely on Eberl’s confidence in the judgement of the scouting department.

Koné has developed into a key player since joining Borussia Mönchengladbach from Toulouse in the summer of 2021. He is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga. In particular, his flexibility to operate as both a number 6 and a number 8 makes him an interesting potential addition.

Koné with a weak first half of the season

Koné has made 19 appearances for Gladbach this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists. His performances have not only attracted attention in Germany, but international clubs such as Liverpool have also shown interest in him in the past. However, his poor first half of the season and his injury history cast doubt on whether the 22-year-old will really be a hot topic in Munich.

In addition, Aleksandar Pavlovic has recently impressed in Koné’s position and has now been called up for Germany’s senior national team for the first time. Leon Goretzka’s form has also been on the up recently. Should there be any prominent departures from Munich, however, Manu Koné could become an issue for the German record champions.
