After Uli Hoeneß retired from active day-to-day business as the long-serving president of FC Bayern a few years ago, the 71-year-old celebrated his comeback last summer. Now that these personnel changes in the management team have been carried out harmoniously and calm has returned to Säbener Straße, Hoeneß has announced that he intends to withdraw from day-to-day business in the future.
No other person has shaped FC Bayern as much as Uli Hoeneß. First as a player, then as manager and from 2009 as president of the German record champions. In November 2019, the 71-year-old did not stand again in the presidential election and thus withdrew from the active day-to-day business of the club. Since then, Herbert Hainer has held the office of Bayern President.
However, the honorary president made a surprising comeback at Säbener Straße this summer. After the club’s supervisory board decided to release former CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, there was a power vacuum at FCB, which Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge temporarily filled from this point onwards. Both long-standing Bayern officials were part of the transfer task force and installed a new sporting director in Christoph Freund.
Hoeneß wants to concentrate on the Supervisory Board
Since calm has returned to FC Bayern in recent weeks and months, Hoeneß and Rummenigge now want to withdraw from active day-to-day business again. The honorary president announced this on ServusTV and even gave a specific date: „As soon as we have the feeling that FC Bayern is back in very calm waters – I think that will be in the first half of the new year.“
Nevertheless, both officials will continue to keep a very close eye on current developments at the German record champions: „Then we, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I, will take a back seat again and make sure things are going well on the Supervisory Board,“ added the Honorary President in conclusion.
