A clear change in strategy is emerging at FC Bayern – and it doesn’t just start on the pitch. Behind the scenes, Uli Hoeneß and Vincent Kompany set the course early on to focus more strongly on young talent. What has long been demanded is now increasingly being visibly implemented
As reported by Sport BILD, there were two landmark meetings between Honorary President Uli Hoeneß and head coach Vincent Kompany at Lake Tegernsee before the current season. The talks focused on the targeted promotion of talented youngsters from the club’s own campus and their long-term integration into the professional squad. A strategy that is now clearly visible at the German record champions
Kompany focuses on youth – and delivers results
Since taking office in the summer of 2024, Kompany has given a total of eleven young players their competitive debut. Eight talented youngsters made their first appearance for the professionals in the current season alone. The Belgian is thus sending out a clear signal and clearly distinguishing himself from his predecessors, under whom the integration of young players was often only selective
Lennart Karl is a particularly striking example of this development. The attacking player recently caused a stir with his late winner in Freiburg and has already played his way into the first team despite his young age. Other youngsters such as Wisdom Mike have also been given their first minutes under Kompany and have been able to showcase themselves at the highest level

The changes are not only statistically measurable, but also noticeable in the game. The young players bring dynamism, a carefree attitude and a high level of identification with the club – qualities that have recently given Bayern’s game a noticeable new impetus
Clear line with sporting and economic added value
Although FC Bayern has a tradition of promoting its own talents, this has not always been pursued consistently in the past. Under coaches such as Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, similar efforts were made, but they were rarely implemented with the same consistency
Under Kompany, there is now a clear line that is obviously wanted by those responsible. The campus is moving more into the center of sporting planning, talented players are being given real prospects and the permeability between the youth and professional sectors is increasing noticeably
In addition to the sporting aspects, the economic factor also plays an important role. According to Sport BILD, the total market value of Bayern talent has risen significantly over the past two years and is now approaching the €300 million mark. A development that shows that investment in youth development is increasingly paying off
FC Bayern is thus driving forward a sustainable strategy that combines sporting success with economic stability. The path it has taken could prove to be a decisive competitive advantage in the long term – and at the same time further strengthen the club’s identity.
