FC Bayern are traveling to Madrid with plenty of self-confidence – and that’s exactly what sporting director Max Eberl made clear once again ahead of their departure. The Munich side believe they are well prepared for the quarter-final first leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
„The boys have put themselves in a position where we can travel there with confidence, with all the necessary humility that the Bernabeu and our opponents always bring. But we are looking forward to it, with a healthy tension. It’s about simply doing what we can. And that’s quite a lot. We have earned that confidence,“ said Eberl before the team’s departure for the Spanish capital
For Eberl, the current self-confidence is based above all on the performances of the entire season. „We have played very consistently in all three competitions throughout the season,“ explained the Bayern boss
The performances against top international teams in particular serve as a reference, with victories against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea FC showing that Munich can also hold their own at the highest level
Warning against Real and the Bernabeu
Despite all the confidence, Eberl also sounds a note of caution: the special atmosphere in Madrid and the quality of the opponents in particular make the clash a major challenge
He cites Manchester City’s recent elimination as an example: „You can’t think it’s a foregone conclusion. We have to be very careful not to neglect things in our euphoria, we have to pay attention for 90, 95 minutes.“
Eberl also sees the defeat at Arsenal FC as an important experience from which the team should have learned.
