FC Bayern secured another must-win in the derby against 1. FC Nürnberg, winning 2-0. Edna Imade and Natalia Padilla-Bidas scored the goals after the break. The Munich side struggled for a long time against compact visitors.
The roles were clearly defined before kick-off, but Nuremberg made things uncomfortable for the favourites right from the start. The visitors stood deep, defended with discipline and occasionally made pinpricks.
Bayern took control early on, but initially found few solutions against the tight defensive block. Edna Imade had the best chance of the first half following a corner, but Nuremberg keeper Romero made a strong save (14′). Another header from the striker and a free-kick from Carolin Simon also narrowly missed the target.
At the other end, Nuremberg almost took the lead when a mistake by Mala Grohs gave Nastassja Lein a free shot, but she only managed to hit the outside of the net (43′). Despite a clear advantage on the pitch, the teams went into the break goalless.
Lightning start after the break paves the way
Munich struck straight after the restart: Glódís Viggósdóttir headed a corner against the crossbar, but Edna Imade reacted quickest and pushed the ball over the line from close range to make it 1:0 (46′).
The league leaders remained in control of the game after that, but without being consistently compelling. Chances were initially in short supply, with only a long-range shot from Momoko Tanikawa forcing Romero to make a strong save (50′). Shortly afterwards, the crossbar once again prevented another goal when Viggósdóttir’s header hit the aluminum (63′).
Nuremberg remained dangerous through transitional situations and almost equalized when Polášková found herself in front of Grohs, but was denied by the strong reaction of the Bayern goalkeeper (81′).
The game was finally decided ten minutes before the end when Edna Imade, after an impressive combination down the right, crossed the ball flat into the middle, where Natalia Padilla-Bidas slotted home from close range to make it 2-0 (80′).
Championship moves ever closer
In the closing stages, the Munich side even had chances to go one better, but failed to capitalize on them. Nuremberg held out until the end, but were unable to turn the game around.
The win extends FC Bayern’s impressive run to 61 points after 21 games. They currently have a 14-point lead over VfL Wolfsburg with one game remaining. Given this constellation, the title race in the spring of 2026 is effectively decided.
Munich’s next game is the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United on Wednesday (18:45), followed by the semi-final against SGS Essen in the DFB Cup on the following Monday. In the Bundesliga, the away game at Union Berlin is not until 26 April. Nuremberg are also not back in action until 26 April, when they host Hamburger SV.
