FC Bayern have suffered a setback in their pursuit of a promising talent, who has apparently decided against a move to Munich
As the Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports, right-back Daniel Banjaqui has signed a new contract with Benfica Lisbon on reaching the age of majority. The 18-year-old’s contract runs until 2031 and contains an exit clause of 80 million euros
According to Sky, Munich had recently expressed their interest in the Portuguese U18 international and informed themselves about his situation
However, the German record champions were not the only club to have their eye on the talented player: FC Barcelona and several top clubs from England are also said to have taken a close look at Banjaqui
The young full-back is regarded as one of the most exciting defensive talents of his generation in Portugal. Despite his young age, he has already gained his first professional experience and has made three appearances for Benfica’s first team so far
Bayern look to other options

However, the decision does not come as a complete surprise to FC Bayern, who had recently set other priorities for the right-back position internally anyway
Above all, Feyenoord talent Givairo Read is still seen as the preferred solution for the future. The 19-year-old has long been a focus for Munich and is said to play a much bigger role in their plans than Banjaqui
Nevertheless, the case shows once again how intense the competition for top international talent is. For FC Bayern, the extension in Lisbon is a minor setback – but the search for reinforcements for the defence continues.
