FC Bayern are pressing ahead with their squad planning and are once again relying on a promising talent from their own ranks. Noël Aséko is returning to Munich from Hannover 96 after the season – and is set to play a bigger role at the record champions in the future
As the club confirmed on Thursday, the 20-year-old defensive midfielder will return to Säbener Straße in the summer. Aséko has been on loan to second-division club Hannover 96 since the 2025 winter break, where he gained important experience in the professional game. His contract at FC Bayern runs until 30 June 2028
Important development steps in Hanover
The loan to Hannover has proven to be an important step in Aséko’s career. The U21 international has made 27 appearances for the Lower Saxony side so far, scoring three goals and providing five assists. His presence in central midfield and his development against the ball have been particularly impressive
The Berlin native had already made a name for himself at FC Bayern Campus before that. After moving from Hertha BSC in the summer of 2022, he progressed through the Munich club’s youth academy and made a total of 30 appearances for the second team, scoring two goals in the process
The loan was supposed to be the next step in his development – and Aséko seems to have taken exactly that. Those in charge in Munich now apparently believe he can hold his own at a higher level
Growing prospects at FC Bayern
Parallel to his development at the club, Aséko has also established himself in the DFB system. After appearances for the U17s, U18s and U20s, he made his debut for the German U21 national team last September. He has already made five appearances – further evidence of his upward trend
Aséko’s return to Munich is therefore more than just a formal step. Rather, it fits in with FC Bayern’s strategic focus on young, developing players. The 20-year-old has an exciting opportunity in central midfield in particular, where changes could be imminent
It remains to be seen whether Aséko will immediately take on a role in the professional squad or whether he will initially be carefully developed further, but one thing is clear: FC Bayern believes in his potential – and wants to bring him closer to the first team in the future
