FC Bayern were apparently on the verge of a spectacular transfer last summer. An agreement had already been reached with an attacking star – but the deal fell through
FC Bayern almost made a prominent addition to its attack last summer. As reported by BILD, the Munich club had already reached an agreement in principle with Ademola Lookman and his management at the end of the transfer period
The Nigerian winger from Atalanta Bergamo was keen to move to FC Bayern and talks with the player’s side were successful, especially as Lookman is represented by the ROOF agency – the same consultancy firm that also looks after Konrad Laimer, Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka
Atalanta blocked the transfer of Lookman to Bayern
Despite the agreement with the player, the transfer ultimately did not go through as Atalanta Bergamo objected and refused to allow the attacking player to move to Munich
In addition, sporting director Max Eberl was severely restricted financially. The supervisory board had decided internally to only make loan deals in the final phase of the transfer window. A permanent transfer was therefore not possible
As Atalanta had no interest in such a deal, the deal fell through and Bayern had to fall back on Nicolas Jackson in attack

In retrospect, the failed transfer seems all the more remarkable. Lookman did eventually leave Atalanta in the winter – but not for Munich
The attacking player moved to Atlético Madrid for around 35 million euros, with the Spanish top club opting for a permanent deal after Bayern had tried in vain to bring the winger to Munich months earlier.
