It’s no longer a secret that FC Bayern seriously considered bringing Julian Nagelsmann back in spring 2024. Now his advisor Volker Struth has provided further insights – and is not ruling out another collaboration in the future
The sporting situation in Munich is absolutely stable at the moment. In Vincent Kompany, the record champions appear to have found a coach who not only delivers results, but also ensures calm. The Belgian has led the team back to success and the mood around Säbener Straße is more positive than it has been for a long time. Many fans are already hoping for a long-term era under the 39-year-old
It is all the more remarkable to look back to spring 2024
Bayern hoped for a quick Nagelsmann agreement
Following the separation from Thomas Tuchel, Nagelsmann was apparently the preferred solution internally. According to his advisor Volker Struth, Munich were hoping for a quick decision. „Of course, it took a few days to get our heads together and think about everything,“ the advisor revealed in an interview with BILD
During this phase, there were reportedly regular exchanges with Bayern’s top management. Struth described the situation with a wink: Max Eberl had sent him animated cartoon characters via WhatsApp – Tom and Jerry impatiently pacing around the room, or a figure on a swivel chair looking up in the air waiting. A humorous but clear reference to the impatience at the Isar
In the end, however, Nagelsmann opted for the DFB, extending his contract as national coach ahead of time and making a clear commitment to the national team
Return not ruled out
A comeback to FC Bayern is currently not an issue. Kompany is successful, Nagelsmann feels comfortable at the DFB. However, Struth made it clear that the Munich chapter is not finally closed for his client
„Julian is very happy at the moment. His contract runs beyond the World Cup and Bayern currently has a good coach and success – but I wouldn’t rule it out,“ explained the advisor
A clear rejection sounds different
Nagelsmann’s first tenure in Munich ended after just one and a half years – despite a long-term five-year contract. The hope of a formative era was not fulfilled at the time
Whether the paths of Nagelsmann and FC Bayern will cross again one day depends on many factors. One thing is certain: this story is clearly not over yet.
