Jamal Musiala has to start on the bench for the classic against Borussia Dortmund. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany explained before the game why he is resting him for the time being
Vincent Kompany has left Jamal Musiala out of his starting eleven for the Bundesliga classic against Borussia Dortmund. He was still in the starting eleven against Frankfurt last week. Serge Gnabry will now start in place of Musiala at Signal-Iduna-Park
When asked whether Gnabry had been preferred because of his experience, Kompany replied on the Sky microphone: „No, that didn’t play a role in my head for a second. We don’t lack experience in the team, that’s the truth.“
Kompany then explained the decision to leave out Musiala as follows: „We are always in communication with Jamal. That is of course the most important thing for us, that we communicate. We have a plan for Jamal. He knows his plan, that’s the most important thing. He can still play a big role today, but maybe more in the second part of this game.“
Kompany expects „a reaction“ from BVB
In any case, the Belgian „doesn’t just want to talk about Serge, but about all those guys up front. I mean, how many goals have they scored this season? If they keep that up today, then we’ll have a good classic.“
After the Champions League exit against Atalanta Bergamo, Kompany expects Borussia Dortmund „to react at home. Of course, I can always imagine what I would have said in the dressing room if we’d just had this big disappointment on Wednesday and then you play Bayern Munich.“
The Bayern coach also explained: „But what you can’t underestimate is that we also want to go all in. There are no ulterior motives with us. We just want to be the best Bayern and we want to attack, we want to score goals, we want to win the game.“ Kompany „always“ sees a title fight, „but I still don’t have that in my thoughts. For me, it’s just about winning this game.“
