FC Bayern know where they are heading in the DFB Cup semi-finals. After their 2-0 win over RB Leipzig, the next big hurdle awaits on the road to Berlin. The final round will be a real cracker.
The record champions will face Bayer Leverkusen away from home in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, as revealed by the draw on Sunday evening on ZDF. VfB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg will face each other in the second clash.
This will be another tough test for Vincent Kompany’s team. Leverkusen are currently one of the strongest teams in the league and have also played their way through the competition with ease. The Werkself are currently in sixth place in the league.
FC Bayern came through the quarter-finals with a 2:0 win over RB Leipzig. After a goalless first half, Harry Kane put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot and Luis Díaz increased the lead shortly afterwards. FCB then defended with concentration and secured their place in the semi-finals for the first time since 2020.
Four duels in six weeks?
The constellation is also explosive with regard to the international competitions. Leverkusen could also meet in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Leverkusen won the first leg of the play-offs for the next round 2:0 away at Olympiakos Piraeus and are therefore Munich’s likely opponents in the round of 16 alongside Borussia Dortmund.
Should this happen, the two teams would face each other four times in the space of around a month and a half: twice in the top flight, once in the Bundesliga and now also in the DFB Cup.
The semi-final will be played on 21 or 22 April 2026, the exact date has yet to be determined, but one thing is clear: Bayern are facing an intense few weeks – both nationally and internationally.
VfB Stuttgart will host SC Freiburg in the second semi-final, meaning that four Bundesliga clubs will make it through to the final round, with two of them ultimately playing for the title in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. The final will take place on May 23, 2026.
