In the midst of the FC Barcelona election campaign, a new statement is causing a stir: a presidential candidate claims to have already made contact with Harry Kane
The name Harry Kane remains a central topic in the presidential election campaign at FC Barcelona. After candidate Xavier Vilajoana had already publicly held out the prospect of a transfer of the Bayern star, he has now gone one better – and for the first time has spoken of concrete contact
Vilajoana told ESPN: „What we are missing is a striker (..) There is one. In fact, we have already made contact and I think he is a player who would suit us very well, subject to his contract situation: it’s Harry Kane. Kane is a centre-forward who would fit in perfectly with our style of play (..) I also know that he likes Barcelona. In fact, there are very few players who don’t like Barcelona. So it’s just a question of talking, of course.“
Kane as a campaign weapon
The Barça candidate had previously emphasized that, in addition to promoting La Masia, it must also be possible to sign top international stars. Now he even claims to have already initiated talks – albeit with the proviso of his possible election
Kane is regarded in Barcelona as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski in the center of attack. The 32-year-old would fit the profile in sporting terms, but financially such a deal seems extremely ambitious. FC Barcelona are still struggling with high liabilities, while Kane is one of the top earners in Munich and is reportedly earning up to 25 million euros gross per year
From FC Bayern’s point of view, the situation remains relaxed for the time being. Kane is under long-term contract and is indispensable in sporting terms. The Englishman moved to Munich in 2023 for around €100 million and his market value is currently estimated at around €65 million
The fact that his name is now being used offensively in the campaign of a top foreign club is more likely to be seen as a political calculation at Säbener Straße.
