After the extension of Dayot Upamecano’s contract, FC Bayern’s central defense seems to be settled for the time being, but Minjae Kim could have new prospects in the summer – there is apparently concrete interest from the Premier League
With the extension of Dayot Upamecano’s contract, FC Bayern have settled a key personnel issue in defence. Nevertheless, there could be movement in central defence. As BILD reporter Christian Falk reports, two top English clubs are interested in Min-jae Kim
According to the report, both Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the South Korean next summer. A concrete offer has not yet been made, but could be received by Säbener Straße in the near future
Kim only third option
The situation has not improved for Kim in sporting terms recently. Behind Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano, the 28-year-old is currently only considered third choice in the center of defence. He has made 14 appearances so far in the current Bundesliga season, ten of them from the start
There was already speculation about a possible departure last winter and in the summer of 2025. At the beginning of the year, Kim was linked with Chelsea, among others, after the club was on the lookout for defensive reinforcements. AC Milan is also said to have signalled interest in the meantime. A possible transfer fee of around 30 million euros was rumoured. FC Bayern had invested 50 million euros for the centre-back in 2023

However, a sale was not an issue in the winter. Now a departure in the summer seems at least conceivable – provided the offer is right
Sporting director Max Eberl recently emphasized: „The squad planning in central defence for the new season is complete for the time being.“ He continued: „We have reached the point where we are not driven in terms of squad planning. We can take our time to decide what happens next. Of course, we are still keeping an eye on the market. We will certainly never block an option that would be good for FC Bayern.“
