Sacha Boey is having the kind of evening at Galatasaray that he never had at FC Bayern. While the Frenchman was considered an expensive bad buy in Munich and could hardly provide any sporting arguments, he is suddenly causing euphoria in Istanbul – and mocking comments towards Säbener Straße
In the first leg of the Champions League play-offs against Juventus Turin, Galatasaray came back from 2-1 down to score a spectacular 5-2 victory – and Boey played his part. The right-back came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute and scored the 5-2 just three minutes later – a moment that could hardly have been more emotional for him personally
The 24-year-old was still without any real prospects at FC Bayern in the winter. After his move for around €30 million, he was never able to live up to expectations, with injuries and fluctuations in form repeatedly throwing him back. In January, the record champions finally took the logical step and loaned him back to Galatasaray – where he had previously impressed between 2021 and 2024
Boey now seems to be back in his element in Turkey. Alongside former Bayern star Leroy Sané, who was substituted for Gala in the 70th minute, he celebrated the important victory against Juventus with exuberance. The fans reacted on social media with a mixture of enthusiasm and malice – especially towards Bayern
Does Galatasaray want to sign Boey permanently?
User abdu9974 tweeted on TikTok: „Bayern, are you actually on the ball? What’s wrong with you? How can you let one of the best right-backs go? How can you let Sacha Boey go?“
User TalhaAk77 said: „I don’t think Sacha Boey will return to Bayern. But I have to say, Gala did a good job of ripping Bayern off. First he was sold for 30 million, then he didn’t perform at Bayern and then he came back and scored a goal in his first Champions League game!“
The personnel issue remains a tricky one for FC Bayern. In sporting terms, Boey no longer plays a role, but in economic terms, a final solution is likely to be sought in the summer. The loan ends after the season – whether Galatasaray will seek to sign him permanently remains to be seen, but is by no means ruled out.
