Speculation about Harry Kane’s possible departure from FC Bayern has been circulating again for weeks. Saudi Arabia in particular is said to be showing concrete interest. However, record international Lothar Matthäus does not expect the Englishman to move – on the contrary
On Sky, Matthäus made it clear that he firmly believes the goalscorer will stay. „I don’t think he’ll leave Bayern. Money is not his top priority, but feeling at home – with the coaches, his team-mates and his family,“ said the 63-year-old. The family aspect in particular plays a key role for Kane: „He has settled in with his children. It’s a huge step to take the family with him.“
Recently, kicker reported that several clubs from Saudi Arabia are said to have put out feelers for the 31-year-old, with one club even preparing a „highly lucrative offer“. There are also persistent rumours about a possible release clause in Kane’s contract, which runs until 2027. This is said to be in the region of 60 to 70 million euros. However, it is unclear until when such a clause could be activated
Matthäus sees Bayern at a clear advantage
For Matthäus, however, the financial dimension is not decisive. „I have the feeling that the money is not important for him. He would probably earn three or four times as much in Saudi Arabia,“ he argued. His prediction is clear: „I am convinced that Harry Kane will extend his contract at FC Bayern.“
The club is also remaining calm, with sporting director Max Eberl recently emphasizing that although there have been intensive discussions with Kane, there are no concrete contract negotiations regarding an extension at present. „I can’t say what is now swirling around us again, that someone is preparing something,“ explained Eberl with regard to possible interested parties
At the same time, he made it clear that the club is in close talks with its top striker: „I can only say that we are in intensive discussions with Harry regarding him, regarding our success. And the other steps will come afterwards.“
Kane moved to Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 for around 100 million euros and has since developed into a key player in the attack. Internally, there is no doubt that the club wants to keep the Englishman for the long term. If Matthäus has his way, the signs are good.
