As reported by Sky, Munich have been monitoring the top Belgian talent for some time. The record champions are said to have already held initial informal talks with the 17-year-old’s entourage to confirm their interest. Although a concrete offer has yet to be made, the exchange has apparently taken place
Vincent Kompany, in particular, is said to be in favour of a transfer. The Bayern coach is said to be very keen on the central midfielder and sees him as a developmental option with long-term potential. De Cat brings dynamism, intelligence and leadership qualities – qualities that are highly valued at Säbener Straße
Anderlecht set a clear price limit
However, a potential deal will not be a foregone conclusion. As the Belgian portal Voetbalfocus reports, RSC Anderlecht are prepared in principle to let their home-grown talent leave in the summer – but only on the right terms. The asking price is therefore at least 30 million euros. According to consistent reports, the club rejected an offer of 20 million euros from Brighton & Hove Albion in the winter
That would be an enormous sum for a 17-year-old. De Cat is still under contract until 2027, which puts Anderlecht in a comfortable negotiating position. The Belgian U19 international himself is said to be looking for the next step in his career, which makes a transfer in the summer more likely
Bayern are not alone in the race, however. According to Voetbalfocus, Borussia Dortmund are considered serious contenders. RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be interested in the shooting star. A classic Bundesliga four-pack in the bidding for a top talent is therefore quite conceivable
Aseko as a much cheaper alternative
At the same time, an internal solution is increasingly coming into focus. Noel Aseko, currently on loan to Hannover 96, has established himself as a top performer in the Bundesliga 2. Bayern have a buy-back option worth around €2.5 million – a fraction of the transfer fee demanded for de Cat
Should the club opt for Aseko, it would not only be financially attractive, but also strategically sensible. The 20-year-old knows the club, brings aggression and pace and could be gradually introduced to higher tasks
Whether FC Bayern decide to invest millions in de Cat in the summer or opt for an internal move will depend largely on the final squad planning in May and June. One thing is clear: the market is being sounded out – and inexpensive solutions are currently being examined at least as intensively as prestigious transfers.
