Sacha Boey’s chapter at FC Bayern is over for the time being. The Frenchman returned to his former club Galatasaray on loan this week and is likely to be remembered in Munich above all as an unfortunate transfer chapter. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, however, has now called for a differentiated view of the situation
At the press conference on Saturday, the Belgian was open about his right-back’s past few months. „It was a bit unfortunate for him,“ explained Kompany and made it clear that several factors had to be taken into account when assessing Boey’s time at Bayern. For the head coach, it was important „not to mix some issues together“
Boey moved to Munich in the winter of 2024 under Thomas Tuchel and had major sporting difficulties, especially at the beginning. However, there were signs of a positive development in the current season. „He was in a good phase,“ emphasised Kompany – before a setback followed that ultimately became decisive. „Then, unfortunately, he was simply ill at the wrong time and missed almost eight weeks.“ The 25-year-old has not been on the pitch for Bayern since November due to the unspecified illness
Kompany speaks of „reality in the squad“

This long enforced break ultimately deprived Boey of any realistic chance of returning. „That’s simply the reality of our squad,“ Kompany stated matter-of-factly. While the Frenchman was out, the casualty list at Säbener Straße thinned out noticeably – and the competitive situation intensified significantly
Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic are now firmly established on the right side of defence, while Alphonso Davies and Tom Bischof are available on the left. Raphael Guerreiro can also cover both flanks in an emergency. There were no real prospects for Boey in this structure
„Then you suddenly have a decision that is perhaps logical – and good for Sacha,“ said Kompany, explaining the separation. The coach expressly focused on the player’s well-being. „I wish him all the best because he simply deserves these four, five, six months in which he can show and enjoy his soccer qualities again.“
Boey will play for Galatasaray again until the end of the season. The Turkish top club has also secured a purchase option for the summer. For FC Bayern, this marks the end of a transfer that never really took off in sporting terms – from Kompany’s point of view, however, without apportioning blame, but as a logical consequence of the reality of the squad.
