The contract negotiations between FC Bayern and Dayot Upamecano are still at a standstill. Despite intensive talks, no agreement has been reached even after the expiry of an internal deadline. This is said to be the reason
According to BILD, the deal is in danger of failing on one key point in particular – the hand money. As reported, the player’s side had set a clear deadline. Bayern’s current contract offer was only valid until Sunday, 1 February
But on the crucial day, Munich waited in vain for a response. The deadline passed without result, and Upamecano’s side failed to make any concessions. Instead, it is assumed internally that the Frenchman’s advisors are counting on the record champions to give in again. The fronts are now considered to have hardened
According to BILD, the core of the problem is the amount and structure of the hand money. Upamecano’s agents are demanding a signing fee of around 20 million euros if he signs a contract. This demand is not acceptable to FC Bayern in its current form – also in view of a possible exit clause of around 65 million euros
Will the Upamecano deal fail because of the signing fee?
From Bayern’s point of view, there is a risk that Upamecano could, in the worst-case scenario, collect the full hand money and later leave the club again via the clause. In order to minimize this risk, the Munich club are planning to spread the hand money over the term of the new contract and pay it out in several tranches, according to the report. However, this is precisely the point that the player’s side is currently rejecting and is not willing to negotiate

The personnel issue became even more explosive on Sunday when Honorary President Uli Hoeneß spoke out. In an interview with kicker, the 75-year-old expressed his irritation at the behavior of the player’s entourage. „I am appalled by this behavior,“ said Hoeneß and added: „I know that he and his family feel very comfortable in Munich. However, I fear that his advisors will do everything they can to steer him away from Munich.“
Despite the harsh criticism, Hoeneß is still hoping for an agreement. „I would be incredibly happy if Dayot Upamecano decided to stay at FC Bayern,“ he explained. Whether there will actually be a rethink is currently open.
