The mood is tense after FC Bayern’s next point loss. Sporting director Max Eberl found clear words after the draw, focusing in particular on the referee’s performance.
The record champions were held to a 2-2 draw in the top match at Hamburger SV. After going behind early on, the Munich side turned the game around after the break, but were unable to take the lead at the Volksparkstadion. FC Bayern thus remained without a win after the defeat against Augsburg.
Eberl then put the situation into perspective and spoke of a phase „in which it starts immediately“ when points are dropped. The 52-year-old made it clear that the past few weeks have left their mark. „We are now entering a completely normal phase at FC Bayern,“ he explained, referring to the high number of matches in recent months with numerous intense games.
Criticism of Osmers – but no excuses

However, his comments also focused on the performance of referee Harm Osmers. Eberl described the circumstances at the Volksparkstadion and emphasized: „You had to fight against extreme adversity: a stadium that is completely behind this team and a referee who seemed overwhelmed in some situations and did not assess many things well.“ At the same time, he added: „That is no excuse and no excuse.“
In sporting terms, however, Eberl also saw the causes as lying with the Munich team itself. Both against Augsburg and in Hamburg, he said, they had failed to finish off leads cleanly. „We could still have defended the goal we conceded better,“ he clarified, pointing to the team’s own responsibility.
In conclusion, the sporting director once again addressed the strain the team has been under recently. „Almost 20 games in 24 days, ten of which were extremely intense,“ Eberl listed and spoke of very tough months. Now, for the first time, a calmer phase is on the horizon: „We can relax for a week and recharge our batteries – especially mentally. Physically, we are in good shape.“
