After months of uncertainty, Leon Goretzka’s future at FC Bayern is about to change. A top European club is getting serious and is pushing for a quick decision.
Atlético Madrid want to sign Leon Goretzka this winter and have made the midfielder a concrete offer. According to information from Sky, the Spaniards are working intensively with the 30-year-old, who is currently considering the move and wants to make a decision as soon as possible.
According to the report, Goretzka is aiming for a quick clarification and could clarify matters as early as this Thursday. For Atlético, this is about an immediate transfer, not a long-term feel-out. Talks are ongoing, but remaining at FC Bayern until the summer is still an option.
Kompany announces decision meeting
After the 2:1 away win at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, Vincent Kompany spoke publicly about the situation for the first time. The Bayern coach made it clear that internal talks are pending, but at the same time emphasized his role in the decision-making process: „I know that I will get up tomorrow morning and then at some point I will have to have a conversation like this with Max or with Christoph – that we will discuss the squad. But it is NOT about my will.“
Kompany emphasized that it was not about personal ideas, but about an overall assessment: „It’s about what’s right for Leon, FC Bayern and the team.“ The Belgian thus confirmed the ongoing process without giving a clear direction.
Goretzka confirms thoughts of transfer
There had already been numerous reports about a possible departure for the midfielder. In addition to Atlético, other international clubs had also been linked with Goretzka, including clubs from the Premier League. The German international had recently expressed an open mind himself. „It’s an option, of course,“ Goretzka told Die Zeit with regard to a possible move abroad.
