Leon Goretzka talks about his future and sends a clear message to those in charge at Bayern. The midfielder makes it clear what he expects from the club and refers to a prominent case from the recent past
In an interview with Die Zeit, Goretzka spoke openly about possible scenarios for his future. The 30-year-old, whose contract with FC Bayern runs until the summer of 2026, is leaving all options open: „I will listen to everything and weigh it up carefully. I am looking forward to the talks that will take place.“ It is particularly important to him that the club deals with him „honestly“ and „confidentially“. He added: „I would be disappointed if it went like this for me [wie bei Thomas Müller].“
With this statement, Goretzka is alluding to the inglorious end of Müller’s Bayern career. The club had initially hinted at a contract extension with the veteran, but then decided against it at short notice. Müller then moved to the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada. At the same time, there are signs that the international could be on his way out. According to Marca, Atlético Madrid have made an official offer for Goretzka. The Spaniards are offering a transfer fee of between two and three million euros and would pay the player’s entire salary for the rest of the season
The midfielder himself is said to be open to the move and an agreement between the two clubs is considered likely, provided Bayern accept the terms. As reported by Sky, the record champions are prepared to let Goretzka leave if the offer meets their expectations
After the away win in Eindhoven, coach Vincent Kompany referred to upcoming internal discussions on squad planning: „It’s about what’s right for Leon, FC Bayern and the team.“
Meanwhile, the central midfielder’s sporting situation is tense. Kompany has mostly opted for the double-six of Aleksandar Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich, with Tom Bischof also being preferred recently.
