A key personnel issue is coming to a head at FC Bayern Munich. The future of Leon Goretzka is about to be decided. A move abroad is becoming increasingly likely.
According to Marca, Atlético Madrid have submitted an official offer for the midfielder. The Spaniards are offering a transfer fee of between two and three million euros and would also pay Goretzka’s Bayern salary of around 8.5 million euros for the rest of the season. The player himself is said to be open to the move and an agreement between the clubs is considered realistic.
It was previously reported that Atlético have been courting the 30-year-old intensively for days and are pushing for a quick resolution. For the Madrilenians, it is about a permanent winter transfer, not a loan model. Goretzka is reportedly seriously considering the move, but staying in Munich until the summer has not been ruled out.
Kompany refers to internal talks
After the Champions League away win at PSV Eindhoven, coach Vincent Kompany commented publicly on the situation. The Belgian made it clear that the decision is not his alone: „I know that I will get up tomorrow morning and then at some point I will have to have a conversation like this with Max or with Christoph – that we will discuss the squad. But it’s NOT about my will.“ Kompany also emphasized the overarching framework: „It’s about what’s right for Leon, FC Bayern and the team.“
Goretzka himself had also recently spoken openly about the possibility of a move abroad, with the international saying: „That’s an option, of course.“ Given his current role and contract, which runs until the summer of 2026, a winter transfer takes on added significance.
The offer has now also been confirmed by transfer insider Matteo Moretto, according to whom Bayern have received an official proposal that will be decided on shortly.
As Sky reported shortly afterwards, FC Bayern are prepared to sell Goretzka with immediate effect if the offer meets Munich’s expectations. The player’s decision will therefore be crucial. Whether a quick transfer actually happens or Goretzka ends the season in Munich should become clear in the coming hours.
