Leon Goretzka is said to be on the verge of a lightning exit from FC Bayern. The midfielder has now spoken publicly about possible next steps, with the 30-year-old choosing strikingly clear words.
For the first time, the international no longer ruled out leaving Munich. „That’s an option, of course,“ Goretzka said in an interview with Die Zeit. At the same time, he explained: „I think it would be exciting to go abroad later in my career.“ For the midfielder, it would not be an unprepared thought, but a conscious consideration.
Goretzka revealed that he had already considered this question several times in the past. „But I consciously decided against it. I know I’m in a comfort zone in Munich,“ explained the Bochum-born player. A move could still be appealing: „A step out would also be a step for my personal development. Getting to know something new would also enrich my life.“
Atlético Madrid want to sign Goretzka immediately
Almost as soon as these words were published, it was reported that the situation could come to a head. According to Sky, Atlético Madrid are looking closely at Goretzka and are said to be examining a quick transfer in the coming days. According to the report, there are two scenarios for the player: an immediate departure in the winter or staying with the record champions until the summer.
As is well known, the midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season, at which point a transfer without a transfer fee would be possible. In addition to Atlético, AC Milan are also said to be interested, although a transfer without a transfer fee is more likely. In Munich, Goretzka is still considered a sales candidate, also in view of his sporting role.
Goretzka does not want an end „like Thomas Müller“

However, the Bayern professional clearly rejected rumours of contact with FC Barcelona. „I’ve read that I’ve reportedly contacted Hansi Flick in Barcelona. I can deny that here and now,“ he made it unmistakably clear, adding: „No, that’s not necessary. That’s not meant to sound arrogant.“
Regardless of his destination, Goretzka formulated clear expectations of a potential new club. „I want to play for a club with ambitions, one that has a plan and where my qualities are in demand,“ he said. His role within the team is particularly important to him: „Above all, I want to inspire my teammates and lift a team to another level.“
The 30-year-old did not commit himself to a specific league. Although he often hears that he would fit in well in England, „But I have time. I will listen to everything and weigh it up carefully.“ He also explicitly included talks with Bayern and emphasized how important it is to him to be open. „I would be disappointed if things went the same way for me as they did for Thomas Müller,“ Goretzka explained with a view to the club icon’s departure last year.
