Michael Olise has quickly developed into one of the most effective assist providers in Europe at FC Bayern. The Frenchman has been the creative driving force behind the Munich side this season – and is setting historic records in the process
Even the first Bundesliga defeat of the season could not stop Olise’s run. In the 2-1 defeat against FC Augsburg, the 24-year-old set up Hiroki Ito’s 1-0 goal from a pinpoint corner. It was the fourth league game in a row in which Olise recorded at least one assist – a series that underlines his enormous consistency
On course to break Müller’s record
With 16 assists in 19 Bundesliga games, Olise is now playing at a statistical level that is rare even in Munich. His rate of 0.8 assists per game would easily be enough to surpass Thomas Müller’s previous Bundesliga record from the 2019/20 treble season. Back then, Müller scored 21 goals – a mark that was considered almost unattainable for years
Olise still has 15 league games to break this record. Given his current form, it seems less a question of if and more a question of when. What is striking is not only the number of assists, but also their variety: corners, set-pieces, crosses from the half-field – Olise is dangerous from almost every situation
Messi is also within reach
But the Frenchman’s vision has long since extended beyond the Bundesliga. Olise has already scored 22 direct assists in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup across all competitions , bringing the legendary mark set by Lionel Messi, who set up 30 goals for FC Barcelona in the 2011/12 season, into view
This record is still some way off, but the momentum is in Olise’s favour. With his intelligence, precise left foot and close coordination with players such as Harry Kane and Luis Diaz, he is predestined to push his numbers even higher. At FC Bayern, he also benefits from a system that rewards attacking freedom and encourages creative decisions.
