There are increasing signs that FC Bayern are making a personnel decision at the Campus. Michael Wiesinger has apparently decided to move to the German record champions and will take on a central role in the youth structure from next summer
Last week, BILD had already reported that Michael Wiesinger was a hot candidate for the position of Campus Director at FC Bayern. Now it is apparently clear where the journey is heading. According to the newspaper, the 53-year-old has decided to move to Munich. Bayern are therefore firmly planning for Wiesinger to take up his new position in the summer
This means that the planned realignment of the youth academy is taking shape. In future, Wiesinger will relieve Jochen Sauer, who is currently heavily involved in the international „Red and Gold“ project as Director of Youth Development and Campus. This multi-club model, in which FC Bayern cooperates closely with Los Angeles FC and partner clubs in South America and Africa, ties up enormous resources and requires a large organizational presence outside of Munich
Clear division of roles at the Bayern Campus
Bayern’s plan is clearly outlined: while Sauer will focus more on strategic and overarching tasks as well as the international network, Wiesinger will be responsible for the day-to-day operations at the campus, including the processes at the youth academy, the close integration of the individual age groups and the sporting development of the talents – always in close coordination with Sauer and the sporting management
This structure is becoming increasingly important, especially in light of the current successes from the campus, above all Lennart Karl’s breakthrough. Bayern want to further professionalize the transition from young talent to the pros and secure it in the long term
Proven youth specialist with a Bayern past
Wiesinger is considered a proven expert in the youth sector. He has been head of youth development at 1. FC Nuremberg since 2019 and has built up a very good reputation there. He was already a topic of discussion at FC Bayern in 2024, but a move did not materialise at the time. Now the time seems to have come
Born in Burghausen, he also has a special connection to the record champions. He wore the Bayern jersey himself between 1999 and 2001 and also played for 1. FC Nürnberg, TSV 1860 Munich and Wacker Burghausen, among others. This mixture of Bayern DNA, professional expertise and experience in the youth sector makes him an ideal choice from the Munich club’s point of view.
