In the latest episode, BILD head of soccer Christian Falk and BILD reporter Tobi Altschäffl analyze a Europe-wide salary ranking that once again attests to FC Bayern’s special position. Three of the German record champions‘ professionals appear in the top ten highest-paid players in Europe. A strong signal – and at the same time the trigger for a fundamental debate about salary structures, market fairness and internal imbalances
The starting point for the discussion is a list compiled by the analysis portal „Global Stats“, which lists Europe’s top earners. It is headed by Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé, but the first Bayern player follows directly behind: Harry Kane with 24.8 million euros. For Falk, this figure is basically plausible, but only with restrictions
Bayern top earner Musiala is missing from the salary ranking
From Bayern’s point of view, the list is incomplete. One name in particular is missing, which comes as a complete surprise to Falk. „According to our information, Harry Kane is not the highest earner,“ he clarifies, adding: „Then Jamal Musiala should actually be in third place, because he earns more than Harry Kane.“ This means that Musiala can earn up to €30 million per year with his clauses and bonuses. Interestingly, according to Falk, Musiala is already ahead of Kane even with his basic salary, excluding bonuses and premiums
Musiala would therefore not only be the highest-earning German player, but also one of the absolute top earners in Europe
Three Bayern stars in the top ten – a clear signal
If Musiala is realistically included in the ranking, a clear picture emerges: FC Bayern has three players among the ten highest-paid professionals in Europe. For Falk, this is a central point of the entire debate. „This shows that FC Bayern already pays more than the market rate,“ he emphasizes. While other top clubs have individual outliers at the top, Bayern pays at an extremely high level, especially across the board
However, this is precisely the crux of the matter, as this salary policy is one of the reasons why the Munich club has long wanted to take countermeasures internally. „Bayern pays at the top, and even more than many top clubs across the board,“ continues Falk. This also explains why the club is currently trying to reduce salary costs – without losing competitiveness
Altschäffl also provides the European context. Apart from Bayern, the top ten mainly includes players from Real Madrid and Liverpool. „Otherwise, only Liverpool and Real follow with two players each,“ he explains. Bayern is exceptionally broadly positioned, especially in the area of salaries around €20 million per year. „So many clubs don’t pay that much money across the board.“
