A strong wing duo is causing a sensation at FC Bayern. Michael Olise and Luis Díaz are reviving memories of the legendary „Robbery“ era. Now Franck Ribéry himself has had his say.
More than six years after the departure of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry, the German record champions are experiencing a renaissance on the wing. With Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, a duo has established itself in Munich that has shone in recent weeks with pace, technique and determination. In the 8:1 win against Wolfsburg, both impressed with scoring points, while Olise provided new impetus after coming on as a substitute in the 5:1 win in Leipzig. Reason enough for many fans to draw parallels with the era of the former star wingers.
Ribéry himself has now also commented on the development of his former club during the Legends Cup. The Frenchman, who shaped the Bayern game between 2007 and 2019, was delighted with the new momentum on the wings, but warned against making hasty comparisons: „I think you have to let go of that time. There are new players now.“
Speaking specifically about Michael Olise, Ribéry said: „He’s still young, but he showed what he can do last season. He has to keep doing that.“
Olise, who moved to Munich from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2025, has impressed in recent weeks with bold one-on-one actions, creative solutions and a strong drive towards goal. For sporting director Max Eberl, the right winger is already „a bit like the new Robben“. Luis Díaz is also causing a stir on the left flank and, with his unpredictability, brings a touch to the game that Ribéry himself once embodied.
Ribéry demands: „Don’t exert too much pressure“

Ribéry sees great potential in Olise, but urges patience: „You can see that he plays without fear. When he’s fit, he has a lot of self-confidence. When his head and body are right, it’s very easy for him with the ball.“ At the same time, the 42-year-old stresses the importance of handling him with care: „But you can’t put too much pressure on him. He’s still young and still has a lot of development ahead of him.“
Coach Vincent Kompany takes a similar view. He also praised the performances of his wing duo, but at the same time put the brakes on the euphoria. Robben and Ribéry have won titles over many years and are rightly legends of the club. This mark must first be reached.
Looking at the current performances, however, it seems clear that FC Bayern is benefiting noticeably from its wing play. Olise and Díaz are shaping the Munich game, bringing dynamism and creativity – and making the fans dream. Harry Kane, currently the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 21 goals, also praised the duo and sees them „on the right track“.
