Comparison with Guardiola: Kompany becomes clear
FC Bayern are set to hit a special mark on Wednesday evening, when they could set a historic record in their away game against 1 FC Köln in the Bundesliga.
With a win, the record champions would complete the best first half of the season in Bundesliga history. In the 2013/14 season, FC Bayern collected 47 points from the first 17 games under Pep Guardiola with a goal difference of +35. Vincent Kompany’s team currently also have 44 points – and an even better goal difference of +51.
Despite the impressive figures, Kompany did not want to draw a direct comparison with Guardiola at the pre-match press conference. „I don’t want to compare myself with Pep Guardiola because that’s impossible, you can’t win that comparison,“ the Bayern coach made clear. And went on to explain: „And I perhaps understand that better because I was a player myself and experienced relegations, championships – like a rollercoaster.“
Kompany emphasized the role of his team: „I know from this experience that it will be down to the players. So it’s not my points, it’s the players‘ points. That’s why I don’t want to compare my record with someone else’s. I don’t care about that at all.“
