Max Eberl’s wires are burning hot: FC Bayern’s sporting director has apparently been making calls about a possible transfer
FC Bayern are not letting up in the transfer poker for Marc Guéhi. Despite strong competition from the Premier League, the Munich club are pressing ahead with their efforts to sign the central defender from Crystal Palace
According to information from Sky, sporting director Max Eberl has picked up the phone again in recent days and held direct talks with Guéhi’s entourage. Bayern’s aim is clear: to convince the England international to move to Munich next summer. Those in charge at Säbener Straße are by no means giving up the fight for the 25-year-old
The starting position in the poker game remains complex. Manchester City are still working on a transfer as early as January. The English champions are looking for short-term reinforcements due to several injuries in defence and would prefer to sign Guéhi immediately. Liverpool, on the other hand, are pushing for a transfer in the summer and hope to reach an agreement after the end of the season
FC Bayern are still pursuing a clear strategy. Munich are still hoping for a transfer on a free transfer in the summer, as Guéhi’s contract at Crystal Palace expires at that point. Eberl and Co. are working towards precisely this scenario – even if the competition with City and Liverpool remains completely open
Guéhi remains an important Bayern topic
The fact that Eberl has now become active again underlines the importance of the defender for the record champions‘ long-term plans. Guéhi is seen internally as a profile that would fit perfectly with the desired stability and leadership structure in defence. Irrespective of Dayot Upamecano’s upcoming contract extension, Bayern are keeping a very close eye on the market for central defenders

Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner himself recently admitted that economic factors could play a major role. „His contract expires this summer, and if someone comes forward, there will be a moment when the club puts the financial aspects before the sporting ones. I’m not naive enough to believe that if City make a colossal offer and Marc wants to leave, the transfer won’t go through,“ said Glasner
It is still completely open as to where Guéhi will go, but one thing is clear: FC Bayern are persistent, Eberl is keeping in touch and trying to convince the defender to move to Munich.
