FC Bayern are already looking ahead to the next competitive match at 1. FC Köln – and in particular to two candidates for their return. Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala continue to work on their comeback, but their involvement on Wednesday evening remains questionable
While coach Vincent Kompany gave his team a day off after the 8-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg, Kimmich put in an extra shift on Monday morning. BILD photographed the 30-year-old at Säbener Straße in wintry conditions. The midfielder completed his individual session in minus three degrees and fresh snow – and in shorts
While head of rehab Benjamin Sommer stood on the training pitch wrapped up tight, Kimmich showed just how strong his will to make a comeback is. According to the report, the DFB captain sprinted at high speed, completed slalom runs and played sharp passes to training dummies. He repeatedly rubbed his shins with snow before the exercises
Kimmich has been absent for three weeks due to persistent ankle problems. He recently had to sit out two competitive matches after the injury had already slowed him down in mid-November. Although he returned to the pitch after the winter break, Bayern do not want to take any risks
Kimmich himself already dampened expectations on Sunday evening in the Allianz Arena, telling BILD about a possible return against FC: „I don’t think so!“
Munich are planning cautiously. Kimmich was still biting his teeth until the last game of the year in Heidenheim (4-0), but had to miss out afterwards. After the Cologne game, the next realistic option for his comeback would be the away game at RB Leipzig on Saturday (6.30pm)
Musiala also back on the pitch
In addition to Kimmich, Jamal Musiala also worked individually at Säbener Straße on Monday morning. The 22-year-old is on the verge of returning from a serious fibula fracture with several torn ligaments in his left ankle, which he suffered on July 5, 2025
Musiala has been training with the team again since mid-December and has even been fully fit and making contact in tackles since the start of the year. Nevertheless, caution remains the top priority for him too. Bayern want to introduce the attacking star slowly in order to avoid any setbacks
According to BILD, it is therefore quite possible that Musiala will not be in the squad for the game against Cologne. One thing is clear, however: both returnees are making great progress – and their comebacks are getting closer and closer.
