FC Bayern celebrates a resounding victory at the restart of the Bundesliga. 8:1: The Munich team knocks VfL Wolfsburg out of the Allianz Arena. The Bayern stars in the FCBinside individual review.
Manuel Neuer: Returned to the starting eleven after his break due to a torn muscle fibre. Was powerless when conceding the goal to make it 1-1. Wasn’t asked to do much else. But made a great save against Pejcinovic in the five-metre area. That was strong! Grade: 2
Konrad Laimer: Made a positioning error before Wolfsburg made it 1-1, but otherwise played very well, cleared defensively and kept his back to Olise, who was as strong as an ox. Grade: 3
Dayot Upamecano: Had no problems whatsoever with Wolfsburg’s attackers. Spent an evening without any problems in the Allianz Arena. Grade: 3
Jonathan Tah: Just like Upamecano, his defensive partner Tah didn’t break a sweat today. Wolfsburg were simply far too weak offensively. Mark: 3
Josip Stanisic: Played a strong opening pass to Diaz before the 1-0, who then passed into the middle to set up Fischer’s own goal. Had everything else under control and repeatedly got involved in the attack. Good game from Stanisic. Grade: 2
Aleksandar Pavlovic: Put in a solid performance. His passing ability was particularly impressive. On several occasions, he did a good job of deflecting Bayern’s build-up play. Mark: 3
Tom Bischof: Was preferred to Goretzka as a replacement for the injured Kimmich. However, Bischof was unable to shine. The youngster had little access to the game at the start. Bischof improved somewhat as the match progressed. Overall grade: 3
Michael Olise: Prepared the 2:1 through Diaz with a great cross. Failed to beat Wolves keeper Grabara with a shot at the start of the second half. Shortly afterwards, however, Olise put the ball into the corner in Arjen Robben style with a superb flick to make it 3:1. The Frenchman then prepared the 4:1 after a great reception of the ball, which, like the 1:0, was deemed an own goal. In between, he also hit the post again. After his second goal to make it 7:1, Olise was substituted to a well-deserved standing ovation. World-class performance! Grade: 1
Lennart Karl: Was largely out of the picture and was unable to make his mark. Carelessly missed a chance from a very good position when he failed to beat goalkeeper Grabara from close range. Was substituted after just under an hour. Overall, Karl was not convincing this time. Mark: 4
Luis Diaz: After his sharp pass into the middle, Wolfsburg’s Fischer headed into his own goal to make it 1-0. Diaz then headed in after a fine cross from Olise to make it 2-1 for FCB. At 4-1 it was Olise on Diaz again. The Colombian threw himself into his team-mate’s pass, but in the end the goal was deemed an own goal. Diaz collected the assists for the goals from Kane to make it 6-1 and Olise to make it 7-1. He was a constant source of danger and could not be controlled by the overstretched Wolfsburg team. Mark: 1
Harry Kane: In the first half, Kane didn’t get into any dangerous goalscoring situations and often dropped very far back. In the second half, the Englishman once failed to beat Grabara close to goal. Then Kane showed his world class in two actions: He set up Guerreiro’s goal for 5:1 superbly and scored the 6:1 himself. And how! His shot into the corner of the net was an absolute dream goal! Grade: 1
Substitute
Leon Goretzka (57th for Pavlovic): Quick-wittedly set up the goal to make it 5-1 when he quickly took a free-kick and set up Kane, who provided the assist. Then scored the final goal to make it 8-1. mark: 2
Raphael Guerreiro (57 for Karl): Scored just eleven minutes after coming on as a substitute to make it 5-1. That was ice-cold! Played a pleasing part in the game in other respects as well
Wisdom Mike (78th for Kane): Came on too late to score
Hiroki Ito (78 for Upamecano): Came on too late to score
Felipe Chavez (84 for Olise): The youngster made his Bundesliga debut and came on too late to score
