FC Bayern’s first competitive match of 2026 is coming up next Sunday: they will play VfL Wolfsburg at home in the Bundesliga. Before that, coach Vincent Kompany’s team will play a friendly match at Red Bull Salzburg today, Tuesday

The info before the game
Kick-off is at 3 p.m. in Salzburg’s Red Bull Arena. The Munich side are clear favourites, and not just because of their 6-0 win last year. Red Bull Salzburg have only ever beaten FC Bayern once in their entire history. In 2014, the Austrians won 3-0 in a winter test match – the opening goal was scored by Sadio Mané
A look at the current form also speaks clearly in favour of the German record champions. After an outstanding first half of the Bundesliga season, Bayern are unbeaten at the top of the table with 41 points and a goal difference of +44. Salzburg, on the other hand, are going through a difficult phase in sporting terms, having won just two of their last seven competitive matches and will therefore go into the tough test against Munich looking for a sense of achievement.
For Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano, the clash also means a reunion with their former club. Laimer wore the Red Bull Salzburg jersey from 2015 to 2017 before his path within the group took him further into the Bundesliga to RB Leipzig. Upamecano, who also signed for Salzburg in 2015 and moved to Leipzig two years later, followed an almost identical career path. Unlike Laimer, the centre-back was already drawn to Munich in 2021 – and thus to FC Bayern two years earlier.
