Sacha Boey has completely lost the spotlight at FC Bayern. The right-back’s last competitive appearance was more than eight weeks ago – and there are many indications that he will not play another game in a Bayern shirt
Boey last appeared on the pitch in the 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on 1 November. The Frenchman was substituted in the closing stages and played around 15 minutes. Since then, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has left him out. Although the 25-year-old regularly sat on the bench in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup, warming up several times, he has not been substituted once. According to the Münchner Abendzeitung newspaper, a key reason for his loss of sporting importance is that Kompany was reportedly not always happy with Boey’s attitude. In one specific case, the Frenchman took too long to change before a planned substitution. The coach is said to have been annoyed and cancelled the substitution at short notice as a result. Since then, Boey has effectively played no role under Kompany
According to AZ, the internal line at FC Bayern is clear: Boey is allowed to leave the club in the winter. A separation is even being actively sought. The Munich club would not put any obstacles in the way of the Frenchman, provided a suitable offer is received. In retrospect, the transfer is seen as a misunderstanding that never really worked out in sporting terms
Boey flops at FC Bayern
Boey moved to Munich from Galatasaray at the end of January 2024 for around €30 million. He had already made only irregular appearances under Thomas Tuchel, partly because numerous injuries slowed him down. Torn muscle fibres, torn muscle bundles, meniscus problems and an ankle injury meant that he had already missed a total of 36 competitive matches. He was not spared injury misfortune under Vincent Kompany either
Nevertheless, Boey was given opportunities at the start of the season. When Josip Stanisic was absent, he was on the pitch more often, playing 14 competitive matches since the summer and starting six times. Despite praise from Kompany, who publicly described Boey as a positive example of patience with substitutes, his role changed again over the course of the first half of the season
A winter transfer is now considered a realistic scenario. Bayern would probably be prepared to let Boey go for a transfer fee of between 15 and 20 million euros. Crystal Palace, in particular, have recently been touted as a hot prospect. The Premier League club is looking for reinforcements on the right side of defence and is monitoring the situation closely
According to the AZ report, sports director Christoph Freund could be a possible door opener. The Austrian has a close relationship with Palace coach Oliver Glasner from their time together at RB Salzburg. If a concrete offer follows, things could happen quickly. There are many indications that Boey and FC Bayern could part ways this winter.
